A New Educational Platform in Partnership with Goethe Institute in Tbilisi

“Propaganda” has created a new platform to strengthen art education and popularize critical thinking. The launch was made possible by the support of Goethe Institute in Tbilisi and it has been actively evolving in the frames of this partnership.
“Extern” is the name of collective reading and discourse groups. It is an attempt to create an alternative of existing educational format in Georgia. Young professionals, of art industry growing artists and curators will be able to reflect together on contemporary ideas and exchange knowledge and information within an informal think-tank. “Extern” is an equal and lively process of collective self-education. Reading sessions will be hosted by the new art-studios managed by the organization. Apart from strengthening theoretical basis, the platform aims to discover people interested in contemporary art and give them access to the creative process, resulting in extension of the existing art-network with new initiatives and interesting connections.
Reading groups are divided into subjects, with each having sessions twice a week for 3 months in total. The sessions will be moderated by an experienced professional, specialist or researcher. The first two cycles of ``Extern`` are dedicated to critical theory and contemporary art analysis. The discussions are based around newest art-literature or key texts of contemporary art, such as: “The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction” by Walter Benjamin; “Duty Free Art: Art in the Age of Planetary Civil War” by Hito Steyerl and “The End of the History of Art” Hans Belting. The moderators of groups are: Ketevan Shavgulide (Researcher of Art, Lecturer, Teacher, Art-critic) and Davit Koroshinadze (Researcher of Art, Artist, Essayist).
