Allochronic • Vazhmarr & Giorgi Zagareli (Season Closing)
Season Closing of “Allochronic” – ongoing audio/visual concert series featuring live performances from local and international artists” in original locations around the city of Tbilisi. The series support the emerging experimental art scene of the city, it creates platform for musicians and visual artists and gives them opportunities of interacting with new audiences and taking advantage of Tbilisi’s unique spaces.
Giorgi Zagareli
Born in Tbilisi, Georgia. Studied viola at Tbilisi Conservatory, Detmold, Leipzig and Basel Musik Hochschules.
Giorgi Zagareli is the first to have executed works for viola by Berio, Feldman, Xenakis, Stravinsky, Walton, Penderecki, Ligeti, Pärt, Kancheli, and Mansurian in Georgia.
As soloist Giorgi Zagareli has cooperated with Estonian National Symphony Orchestra, Armenian State Symphony Orchestra, Basel festival Orchestra, youth orchestras of Leipzig and Detmold, Rijeka Opera Symphony Orchestra, Tallin Youth String Orchestra, Pärnu Symphony Orchestra, Thessaloniki Symphony Orchestra, Azerbaijan State Orchestra, Symphony Orchestra of National Philharmonic of Ukraine, as well as with Tbilisi Symphony, Georgian Sinfonietta, Georgian Philharmonic Orchestra and Trinity Men’s Choir.
artists such as Gidon Kremer, Natalia Gutman, Andres Mustonen, Tigran Mansurian, Ariel Zuckermann, Marine Iashvili, Kola Blacher, Mikhail Muntian, Alexander Buzlov, Anita Rachvelishvili, Mario Stefano Pietrodarchi etc. Recently he has also performed for and shared stage with international ballet superstar Nino Ananiashvili.
In 2008 he world-premiered Viola Concerto (1987) by Sulkhan Nasidze.
In 2014 Giya Kancheli dedicated to Giorgi Zagareli “20 Miniatures” for viola.
In 2016 he received the “Tsinandali Award”.
In 2017 Giorgi Zagareli formed the string orchestra “Zagreli & Strings”.
Recent highlights include collaboration with Kordz, Vazhmarr, Natalie Beridze, Nika Machaidze, KayaKata etc.
VAZHMARR
Vazha Marr is a musical producer from Tbilisi. His Experimental pieces meditate on variety of genres from ambient to Glitch or conventional melodic structures. Inspired to re-define the legacy of past decades, Marr’s multi directional narratives may often unite under the tag of IDM. However, with a weapon of choice being live instruments and aleatoric flow, especially during his performances. In 2011 Marr became a part of indie-electronic duo ‘Me and my Monkey’ (MAMM) and performed various lives in Europe. Outside his solo-projects, he actively collaborates with musicians of different backgrounds in search of new sound, be it folk music, neo-classical and experimental techno.
