Onur Akyol – Tbilisi Residencies/Stamba
Onur Akyol is an artist, writer and curator based in Basel and Vienna. After having studied in the Critical Studies masters program at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, he worked as a curatorial assistant at Kunsthalle Basel. His diverse practice encompasses sculpture, performance, text and curatorial work that often deals with relationality and the social de- and connotations of form.
Akyol was invited after moderating the talk with artists Sitara Abuzar Ghaznawi and Ser Serpas. During his three months stay at Tbilisi Residencies/Stamba, along with creative researching and familiarizing himself with Tbilisi’s artistic climate, Akyol is planning an intense theoretical work with the local artistic community as part of the educational project “Extern,” implemented by propaganda. Akyol will present weekly seminars on the discourse around relationality and the “social turn” in contemporary art that will cover major tendencies and key issues around the subject.
